Chewbacca, also known as Chewie, was a warrior, smuggler, and resistance fighter who fought in many wars in his life. He was from the world of Kashyyyk and became a military leader, having participated in the Clone Wars as an ally to the Jedi. In the years following the birth of the Galactic Empire, he would be condemned to slavery. After Chewbacca was freed by Han Solo, he swore a life-debt to him and joined Solo throughout his smuggling career, becoming his co-pilot on

the Millennium Falcon. In the days after the theft of the Death Star plans, both he and Solo fell in with the Rebel Alliance and participated at the Battle of Yavin, aiding Luke Skywalker in destroying the Death Star. After the battle, he was considered a rebel hero, and he would throughout the war play a role in key victories against the Empire alongside Solo and their new friends Luke and Leia, and droids C-3PO and R2-D2.

After the rebels managed to gain a great victory in the Battle of Endor and was reformed into the New Republic, Chewie and Han would fight to liberate Chewie's home planet and free his people from the Empire. When the war came to an end, he returned home to be with his family. After Han's son Ben Solo, turned to the Dark Side, Chewbacca reunited with his friend and the two spent years as smugglers once more. Chewie and Han’s luck seemed to turn when they found the Millennium Falcon, lost years before through a fickle turn of fortune. But the galaxy was once more engulfed by war, and the smugglers were in the middle of the trouble. Han died at the hands of his own son, forcing Chewie to look for a way to carry on without his beloved old friend.

Biography Edit

Early Life Edit

Chewbacca was born on Kashyyyk two hundred years before the Battle of Yavin, the son of Attichitcuk. During his early years Chewbacca lived on Kashyyyk, but unlike many other Wookiees who rarely left the planet's lush forests, Chewbacca was consumed by an overpowering sense of adventure and exploration. Chewie's first travels were to the remote and dangerous lower levels of Kashyyyk's immense forests, the Shadow Forest. It was not long before his travels took him far from the confines of his green home planet. His heart, however, remained on Kashyyyk, and Chewie would always try to make it home to his family. When Chewie was in his younger days, before he had reached a hundred years of age, he was well known for his skill at navigating the tall wroshyr trees and his skill with a hydrospanner. When Chewbacca first met his future wife Mallatobuck, he was unaware of the young Wookiee's feelings toward him. Malla was shy and hid all hints of her true feelings, even going so far as to not show appreciation when Chewbacca once saved her from Trandoshan slavers.

However, Chewbacca's cousin Jowdrrl was friends with Malla and helped to slowly create a relationship between the two. Unfortunately, their blossoming relationship hit a snag when another Wookiee Tojjevvuk for Malla's affection. Chewbacca was eventually forced into an honor duel with Tojjevvuk for Malla's hand, but the other Wookiee brought dishonor on the duel by using his claws, forbidden for a Wookiee. However, Chewie's expertise in navigating the wroshyr trees proved to be his adversaries downfall, and a timed tackle by Chewbacca sent the enemy into a plummet into the Shadow Forest where he was killed by the dangerous creatures of Kashyyyk. At some point in his early adulthood, Chewbacca became a member of the Claatuvac Guild, a organization of Wookiee navigators and scouts. Based out of Tree Vikkilynn in the Kashyyyk city of Kachirho, the Claatuvac Guild was responsible for charting new hyperspace routes, Chewbacca would become one of the Guild's most trusted navigators.

Aiding a Lost Padawan Edit

During the galaxy-spanning conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Separatists, Chewbacca was captured by a pack of Trandoshan hunters led by Garnak and taken to Island Four on Wasskah to be their prey, his transport was attacked by a trio of young led by Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Chewbacca escaped from the wreckage and followed the trio to their hideout, using Tano's understanding of Shyriiwook as a means of communication. Using his technical expertise and parts from the crashed transport, he constructed a transmitter to contact his people on his nearby home, but the device seemed to fail. Two of the impatient young Jedi chose to lure down and hijack a hunting pod and take the base ship. As persuaded by Tano, Chewbacca joined in their endeavor and raided the Trandoshan base, only to be joined by a Wookiee relief force who had received Chewbacca's transmission along with bounty hunters. Once all the Trandoshans had been taken out, Chewbacca and the Wookiees accompanied the young Jedi to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where they parted ways.

Dawn of the Dark Times Edit

During the last days of the war, Chewbacca was a major player in the Battle of Kashyyyk, overseeing the confrontation between the Grand Army of the Republic and the invading Separatist Droid Army alongside Tarfful and Jedi General Yoda, as well as Jedi Master Luminara Unduli. Following the implementation of Order 66, Chewbacca and Tarfful witnessed the assassination attempt on Yoda by Commander Gree, and they helped the Jedi Grand Master elude the Clone Troopers and escape from the planet. Following the reorganization of the Republic into the Galactic Empire, Chewbacca saw his people sent to work as slaves, or as miners in places such as Kessel, or made to serve as science experiments. At some point, Chewbacca and several other Wookiees were captured and slaved by several Trandoshan slavers. Like them, he was forced into slavery, working to cut the wroshyr trees in order to feed the armies of the Empire. At some point, Chewbacca was freed from slavery by Han Solo and swore a life debt to him. Chewbacca eventually became Solo's co-pilot and the first mate of the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon.

Aiding the Rebel Alliance Edit

Entering the Rebellion Edit

It was Chewbacca that Obi-Wan Kenobi spoke to in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, where Chewie and Han happened to be, when in search of transportation to Alderaan. It is not known if Chewbacca's friendship with Yoda during the Clone Wars influenced the decision to help the Jedi. Regardless, Chewbacca introduced the aged Jedi Master and his young companion, Luke Skywalker, to Han Solo and soon the pair bought passage on the Falcon. During the flight over to Alderaan, Chewbacca also played some Dejarik with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, although he ended up losing, to his frustration. After learning from Han that Wookiees like Chewbacca are known to rip people's arms out of their sockets, 3PO suggested to R2 to let Chewbacca win. Once they reached Alderaan, they discovered that the planet had been blown to bits by the Empire. While trying to stop a TIE fighter from revealing their presence in the system, Chewie and the others were hauled into the Death Star by its tractor beams. The group managed to evade the Imperial officers by hiding in a secret compartment in the Falcon. After the discovery of Princess Leia's presence on the station, Luke convinced Solo and Chewbacca to help him rescue the princess.

Luke formulated a plan, which involved Han and Luke impersonating as stormtroopers while Chewbacca pretended to be their prisoner. However, Chewbacca, believing that Luke was actually trying to sell him out, snarled at him when Luke attempted to cuff him, forcing Luke to let Han cuff him, with the latter reassuring Chewbacca that he suspects he knows what Luke was actually planning. While Obi-Wan set off to disable the tractor beams, Chewbacca, Han, and Luke managed to rescue Leia, defeating several Imperial officers in the process. Princess Leia initially disliked Chewbacca as much as she disdained Han and called him a "walking carpet", but the friendship between the two grew over time. Though their mission was successful, Obi-Wan wasn't so lucky, as he was killed by Darth Vader in a duel. Chewbacca, Han, Luke and Leia managed to escape the space station. Chewbacca accompanied the others to the Rebel base of Yavin 4 where they were preparing for their strike at the Death Star. Eager to get their pay, Solo and the Wookiee chose not to get involved with their "revolution" and left. However, Chewbacca managed to convince Han to return and help the rebels. Han finally gave in, helping Luke Skywalker destroy the Death Star. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Chewbacca, Han, and Luke received medals for their heroism during the battle.

Retaliation of the Empire Edit

Now full-fledged members of the Rebel Alliance, and following a dangerous run-in with bounty hunter on Ord Mantell, Chewbacca accompanied Solo to Hoth, for they had been assigned to the newly-established Echo Base, where Chewbacca would be effecting repairs on the Millennium Falcon to pay their debt to Jabba once and for all, meaning he and Chewie would be forced to leave their friends. Things changed, however, with the arrival of an Imperial probe droid. Han and Chewie engaged it, all but confirming the spy droid was sent by the Empire. When Imperial forces arrived, they made a hasty escape with Leia and C-3PO on the Millennium Falcon and were pursued through an asteroid field. Believing they had lost their Imperial seekers, they landed on Bespin, where the group met with Lando Calrissian. When C-3PO was blasted apart and gone missing, Chewbacca sent himself off with the task of finding the missing protocol droid. Chewbacca eventually found him in a junk pile and after a scuffle with some Ugnaught workers, brought him back to Princess Leia and Han Solo. But bounty hunter Boba Fett and the Empire arrived before Chewie could fix C-3PO, Han was tortured and frozen in carbonite, and all seemed lost. Trying to make up for his mistake, Lando freed the remaining rebels, with Chewie thanking him with a powerful chokehold before they all escaped on the Falcon.

Fall of the Galactic Emperor Edit

After the disastrous mission to Cloud City and the loss of his most trusted friend, Chewie temporarily teamed up with Lando Calrissian, occasionally accepting missions from the Rebel Alliance. With Han held at Jabba’s Palace, Chewbacca was part of the rescue mission hatched by the ace pilot’s friends. He appeared as a captive of the bounty hunter Boushh who in reality, Leia in disguise. Leia managed to free Han from the carbonite but was quickly captured by Jabba, who didn’t fall for their ruse. Chewbacca was kept in a holding cell, reunited there with Han, but the two would be sentenced to death by means of the Sarlacc. Brought to the pit in a skiff, Chewbacca saw as Skywalker recover his new Lightsaber and free Chewbacca and Solo from their bonds. However, one of Jabba's staff fired at them, injuring Chewbacca, and leaving the near-blind Solo to rescue Calrissian from falling into the pit. With the Hutt's death at Organa's hands, and the explosion of the sail barge Khetanna, the whole team returned to the Millennium Falcon except for Skywalker and R2-D2, who departed for Dagobah on an X-Wing starfighter back to the fleet over Sullust.

On the meeting to debrief the Alliance on the plan to destroy the second Death Star, Chewbacca volunteered for the mission to destroy the shield generator on the forest moon of Endor, intent on following Solo, newly-appointed General of the Alliance. Joined by Organa, Skywalker, C-3PO and R2-D2, the strike team went to the moon onboard the shuttle Tydirium, with Chewbacca piloting the ship and Solo urging him to "fly casual" as the passed through the Imperial blockade, landing only after Vader allowed them to pass onboard the Star Dreadnought Executor. Later, after landing Chewbacca’s curiosity about a dead animal led to the group’s capture by Ewoks, but eventually the Ewoks would become integral allies in the Battle of Endor. When things looked dire, Chewie and two of the furry creatures swung from a vine onto an AT-ST, commandeering the vehicle. Turning the Empire’s weapon against them, Chewbacca and his new companions all but wiped out the Imperial ground forces, allowing the rebels to destroy the shield generator. Chewbacca looked to the sky and cheered as he witnessed the final destruction of the Death Star and, later that night, he celebrated at Bright Tree Village over a bonfire.

Coming Home at Last Edit

Making New Friends Edit

Following the Battle of Endor, Chewbacca would join Han and their rebel companions in the Rebel Alliance's struggle against the remnants of the Empire. After becoming agents of the New Republic, Chewbacca and Solo were sent on their own mission to find the Empire's supply lines, during which they visited several planets, including Ord Mantell, Ando Prime, Kara-Bin and finally Dasoor. As they reached Dasoor, Imra contacted the duo and informed them that they had a window of opportunity to infiltrate Kashyyyk, still in the Empire's thrall, with its blockade temporarily lifted for a few days, before its ships were replaced. Seeing Chewbacca's anxiety, Solo told Imra to gather any underworld scoundrel who owed him a favor, anyone who hated the Empire, and others in the false promise that they would obtain full pardons from the Republic, whereas Chewbacca was tasked to contact the Wookiee mercenaries. When Han's wife Leia learned about Han Solo's hastily-improvised plan, she tried to advice her husband and Chewie not to trust Imra. However, Han and Chewie were determined to proceed with their campaign to liberate Kashyyyk.

Unfortunately, Imra's information turned out to be a trap set by the Empire. While Chewbacca attempted to board a gunship captained by the Wookiee pirate Kirratha, they were attacked by two Star Destroyers and several TIE fighters. The Imperials shot out Kirratha's engines, leaving Chewie and Kirratha stranded in space. Han barely managed to escape but Chewbacca was captured and locked inside the automated Imperial prison Ashmead's Lockin the jungles of Kashyyyk. Solo traveled through Wild Space on the Millennium Falcon in attempt to find a way to free his friend. In order to find Chewbacca, Solo accepted assistance from a team of rebels sent by Leia including pilot Norra Wexley, bounty hunter Jas Emari, ex-Imperial Sinjir Rath Velus, commando Jom Barell, and Norra's son Temmin along with his droid Mister Bones. Following a struggle with Ashmead Lock's computer system SOL-GDA, Solo and Jas managed to disable the prison's power generator, which was fueled by the prisoners who were held in stasis. Solo managed to free Chewbacca and a hundred other prisoners, and after an emotional reunion, Chewbacca stayed behind with Solo, Sinjir, Jas and Jom with the mission of freeing all of Kashyyyk.

Liberation of the Wookiees Edit

For the next month, Han and Chewie organized a campaign to hunt down Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck, the Governor of Kashyyyk. Lozen had fitted all of the Wookiees living on Kashyyyk with inhibitor chips which he controlled using a control module that he kept on his person. In order to defeat Grand Moff Tolruck, Chewie and his rebel allies devoted their time to finding Tolruck's island fortress. Jas also recruited more Wookiee exiles and smugglers for their planned uprising. While Chewie, Han, and the rest of the team infiltrated Camp Sardo, Sinjir infiltrated Tolruck's palace disguised as an Imperial officer. Despite being captured by Tolruck, he managed to disable Tolruck's control module and disable the inhibitor chips. This set off a mass Wookiee uprising all over Kashyyyk. Meanwhile, Chewie and his team fought off a Low-Altitude Imperial Transport while Jas destroyed Camp Sardo's deflector shield generator. With the aid of Han's rebel forces, the Wookiees managed to overwhelm the meager Imperial garrison on Kashyyyk. After Grand Moff Tolruck summoned the three orbiting Imperial Star Destroyers to bombard Kashyyyk, Chewie and his fellow rebels helped usher the Wookiees into underground shelters.
